IMPORTANT NOTE
I
started writing in 2009.
2.
The knowledge in this article is not a set of theories.
3.
The principles in this article are what I used to write my books and articles.
4.
I started writing before computer scientists started training Artificial
Intelligence to write.
5.
The wisdom keys in this article are fundamental principles you can apply to
write many books and articles without Artificial Intelligence.
6.
The last three principles are for Christian writers. It may work for a
non-Christian if he practices those principles.
My
Top 14 Writing Principles
1. Write the idea.
As
a writer, ideas keep flowing into my mind. I believe you receive a series of
ideas daily, but you don’t act on them. When the ideas come into your mind,
write them down. Do not procrastinate. Do not say to yourself that I will write
it later. Doing that can cost you. I have a smartphone, so I write down the
idea when it comes to mind. Later, I build on those ideas.
I
have laid out numerous drafts in my journal and on electronic devices. I am yet
to add flesh to the bones (undeveloped ideas). Keep this in mind. Ideas are the
foundations of your writing journey, so don’t waste them when they enter your
mind. Write your ideas as soon as possible!
2. Invest in yourself.
I
love reading books and articles because they help me write better. I buy books
in physical and online bookstores. I also download some online. I read every
day because reading is one of my hobbies. You will hardly find me watching a
long movie or watching television. I listen to important messages from gospel
ministers and knowledgeable people because it builds me in wisdom.
Read
the biographies of people who are walking in your field. Read their success
stories and learn from their failures so you will not repeat their mistakes. To
become the best writer in your field, build a consistent reading habit.
Read
the genre you write. For example, I enjoy reading non-fiction Christian books
because I also enjoy writing them. Although I occasionally read other topics to
expand my mind on different subjects, I love Christian books.
Are
you called to write non-fiction books? Then, consistently read non-fiction
books? Are you called to write fictional books? Then, you must consistently
read fictional books. Analyze your writing field and become a voracious reader
of that genre, and you will write better and faster.
3. Eliminate the
barriers.
You
cannot run faster if you carry too much load. The load will force you to slow
down due to its weight. As I stated in the previous point, I don’t have time to
watch long hours of movies and television.
I
don’t have time to hang out with family and friends because I don't have myself.
Although spending time with friends and family has a positive psychological
effect, you must learn to manage your mind and time effectively.
Associate
with family and friends, but be mindful of your time. I would not have reached
this level if I had always been spending time with family and friends, watching
television programs, and engaging in unnecessary activities on social media.
If
you want to rise to the top, eliminate anything or anyone that limits your
progress. You cannot please everyone in life. You cannot watch all the seasonal
movies and TV programs in the world and expect to be an excellent writer. Remove
the barriers and move forward, because time is a precious asset.
4. Be sacrificial,
consistent, and disciplined.
Without
these three virtues, you are going nowhere as an author, writer, and blogger.
Sometimes, I can sit for over twelve hours to write and edit my articles and
books. I have been doing this since 2013.
You
cannot be an excellent writer, blogger, or author if you are lazy. When I talk
of sacrifice, I mean forsaking some things in life to enable you to complete a
particular task. For example, you have an important church meeting, and at the
same time, your friends need you at a party. If you are sacrificial, you will prioritize
attending the church meeting over the party. That is how writing books and
articles works. You may have many activities, but decide to write because
that’s your priority. Consistency has to do with persistence.
You
keep doing the same thing, irrespective of the season. For example, I have
decided to write and publish at least one article every week on my blog. I find
time to write because I am both sacrificial and consistent, regardless of my
schedule. Discipline means you respect rules and regulations. You follow the
protocols set by the system. Money shouldn’t be a limitation to your progress.
Knowledge is the master key to progress.
5. Occasionally,
encourage yourself.
Sometimes,
I become discouraged while writing my articles and books, but I encourage
myself in the Lord. If you don’t build a fortress of hope in your soul, you can
break off and give up. Celebrate success at every stage of your writing and
keep the momentum because few people or no one will be encouraging you when you
start writing. Say to your soul that it is well. Do something memorable to
celebrate your progress, and it will keep you going.
6. Build an inner value.
One
of the main limitations of writers is the inferiority complex. If you don’t
deal with the challenge of an inferiority complex, you can fall off the
writer’s bridge and give up on the writing journey.
Sometimes,
I become discouraged as an author, but I press on! If you allow the destructive
criticisms, self-doubts, weak finances, lineage, and negative mindset to
dominate you, you will give up.
Believe
that God has called you to write. Believe that the books and articles you are
writing will change lives. Some enemies, friends, and family members may initially
fight against you. Don’t give them too much attention, as you will eventually
give up trying to please everyone.
Someone
loves your color, height, personality, and writing style. Do not try to please
everyone, because it is impossible to please everyone in life. Pretending to
please everyone will enslave you.
As
far as you are human, some people will hate, dislike, and love you. Build an
inner value by acquiring adequate knowledge because the inferiority complex
begins in the mind. Check out my book, "How to Break the Spirit of
Inferiority," for more wisdom keys.
7. Type and edit your
work.
Every
article and book with my name were written and typed by me. I typed and edited
them on my laptop. Typing and editing your books improve your writing speed and
skills. From my experience, I have come to realize that typing and editing my
work helps me become a better and faster writer. Do not leave your work to
uncommitted people because they can devalue the content of your book and
articles.
Writing
and editing your articles and books takes time, but it's essential to learn to
do it yourself. Editing my books and articles helps me add more value to my
work. Are you ready to edit your books and articles?
8. Learn how to use
technology.
As
technology advances, writing becomes more enjoyable. I developed my website
because I am passionate about technology. You cannot rise higher as a blogger,
author, and writer if you are unfamiliar with basic technological systems.
Are
you familiar with Microsoft Office as a writer? Microsoft Office is a great
tool that helps edit your books and articles. After writing, you can use
Grammarly to edit it. I use the premium version.
I
used a pro writing aid in some of my books and articles. Currently, I am using
Grammarly Premium to edit my books and articles. There are many author tools
you can use in the writing journey. Visit Tom Corson-Knowles’ website for
additional wisdom keys. His website has valuable information. Also, check out
Joanna Penn’s website for more resourceful information.
9. Gather adequate
knowledge.
As
I stated in point two, read the biographies of successful people in your field.
Reading the articles and listening to the messages of successful people in your
field gives you an advantage in life.
You
will learn from their principles and experiences. You can use a few days to
accomplish a task that should have taken years to finish by reading, listening,
and watching the success stories of people in your field.
Today,
technology has made it easy to learn from others. As a writer, author, and
blogger, you need successful authors, bloggers, and writers in your field. My
definition of success may differ from yours, so consider reaching out to
successful people in your field and learn from them. It will build your
confidence and success. You will advance at a higher pace if you follow this
wisdom key.
10. Follow the process.
If
you have read my book, 'How to Write and Publish Books,' listened to my YouTube
messages, or read the transcript, you will understand that I began writing in a
small way. I started writing in WhatsApp groups.
I
wrote and submitted quotes to websites, and then I started writing Christian
tracts. I was using my printed tracts for evangelism. I gave it away for free
when someone surrendered their life to Christ Jesus during an evangelism event.
Then, I started writing on my Facebook profile. From there, I began writing
articles for my blog.
Finally,
I started with books. Begin somewhere. Do not rush or break the process, or you
will not last long. Begin little. Start writing in your journals, electronic
devices, and social media platforms. Follow the process, and you will become an
excellent writer.
11. Build a strong
system.
You
will not last long if you don’t have a strong system in your writing journey.
Technology has made it easy to create a recognized system. We have numerous
free blogging websites you can begin with.
I
started with Wix; then, someone introduced me to a blogger. Later, I found
WordPress and several free blogging platforms. My main blogging platform is
blogger.com because it is easy to use, and Google hosts the site.
If
you have reached the stage of writing articles, create a free blogging
platform. Create a Facebook page, Twitter page, youtube channel, and other
social media handles to connect with your fans (readers) online.
After
writing, you can share it on your social media handles. I have subscribers on
my email list and Facebook page, as well as several followers who enjoy my
books and articles. I occasionally send some of my free books and articles to
them. Most of my email subscribers and social media followers are active. They
respond to my emails and messages. To stay connected, create channels to engage
with your fans.
12. You must be born
again to write inspired books and articles.
Writing
Christian books and articles differs from other books because Christian books
carry some level of invisible power. To receive inspiration as a writer, you
must be born of the Spirit, the Word, and Water.
You
must be born again. Being born again means repenting and confessing Christ
Jesus as the Savior and Lord of your life. When you repent from your sins and
confess Christ Jesus as the Savior and Lord of your life, the Holy Spirit makes
your heart His home.
When
the Holy Spirit controls your life, you will not struggle to write inspired
books to change sinners and build the Christian believer. By God’s grace, I’m
born again. The Holy Spirit lives in me, and He helps me to write. Are you born
again?
13. Build a consistent
prayer and fasting life.
Almost
all the books I wrote came through prayer. The ideas flow into my soul when I
pray in the Spirit (tongues). If you want to write inspired Christian books, cultivate
a consistent prayer and fasting life, as it will help you connect with the
voice and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
You
will be weak in the Spirit without prayer. Prayerless Christian believers find
it challenging to walk and live in the Spirit. Build your spiritual muscles in
the Lord by prayer, and the Holy Spirit will upload ideas into your soul. The
Holy Spirit will not disappoint you when you pray in tongues.
The
Holy Spirit will supply ideas to your soul if you are called to write. The
ideas will start flowing into your inner man when you begin praying in tongues.
When the ideas come to you, write them down. Download and read my free book,
How to Hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit, for more profound revelations.
14. Consistently feed on
the Word of God.
If
you want to write inspired Christian books, make time for the Holy Scriptures.
When I read the Oracles of Truth, the Holy Spirit gives me ideas to write on a
particular topic. I have Bible study tools on my electronic devices that help
me get scriptures to write my books.
I
use a power Bible CD, e-sword, the Word, and other Bible study tools on my
electronic devices. I have also bought Bible study books with references,
concordances, and several helpful tools.
They
help me write my books and understand the Holy Bible. There are several ways of
studying the Word of God. You can study the Word of God, book by book,
topically, and chapter by chapter.
Check
out my article on how to study the Word of God for more wisdom keys. I have outlined
several methods for feeding on the Word of God. Find a quiet place where no one
or nothing can distract you, and study the Word of God.
Get
some notes beside you and write the ideas down while studying God’s Word. You
will be surprised that the Holy Spirit will inspire you to write during your
quiet time. Follow my top fourteen principles to climb the ladder of excellent
writers, bloggers, and authors. Freely download the book.
